Scotch Whisky
Scotch whisky is governed by the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 (SWR). It must be produced in Scotland, distilled to <94.8% ABV, matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least 3 years, and bottled at ≥40% ABV. Only water and E150a caramel coloring may be added.

- Single Malt: 100% malted barley, pot still, single distillery.
- Single Grain: grain whisky (may include barley, wheat, corn) from one distillery.
- Blended Malt: blend of single malts from multiple distilleries.
- Blended Grain: blend of single grain whiskies from multiple distilleries.
- Blended Scotch: blend of malt and grain whiskies.
Style Factors
- Peat: optional; regional styles (Islay, Islands, Highlands, Speyside, Lowlands, Campbeltown).
- Cask: ex‑bourbon, sherry, wine; finishes common; oak species and climate impact profile.
- Filtration: chill vs non‑chill; cask strength variants.
Flavor & Use
- Range: malt, honey, orchard fruit, vanilla, dried fruit, spice, smoke.
- Cocktails: Highball, Rob Roy, Penicillin; or serve neat/with water.
