Canadian Whisky
Canadian whisky tends to be blended and lighter in style. It must be mashed, distilled, and aged in small wood for ≥3 years in Canada, and bottled at ≥40% ABV. Regulations allow certain flavoring components (the “9.09% rule”) within limits.
Style Factors
- Base whiskies (often high‑proof grain) blended with flavorful components.
- Flexible grain usage (corn, rye, wheat, barley); “rye” may indicate style rather than mash %.
Flavor & Use
- Range: light vanilla, caramel, gentle spice; some bold rye‑forward expressions.
- Cocktails: Whisky Ginger, Highball, Manhattan variants.
